What we do

The North Balwyn Meals Service operates from the Marwal
Centre which is part of BASSCARE, a community care
service for the aged community in Boroondara. The Meals
on Wheels service assists elderly members of our
community to maintain their independence. It is a fulfilling
experience participating in this program as you get to
meet and share the lives of individuals who live locally,
and wish to continue to do so. Whilst you are bringing
joy to the lives of others in your community, you will also
be receiving a warm glow of satisfaction yourself.

Volunteers

Volunteers are vital to the operation of the services.
Volunteer participation is required for:

Delivery of Meals

A three-course meal is collected at the Marwal Centre,
appropriately boxed according to Food Safety Standards.
Meals are delivered in “rounds” of approximately 12-15
households each. In order to provide stability and
consistency to clients, as well as to enable relationships to
build, we maintain clients on the same round and attempt to match volunteers to that client list. Volunteers work with their own vehicles to distribute meals between 11:00am and 1pm. Detailed instructions are provided to volunteers, indicating any specialised meals or special instructions for the day.

Outings
Weekly Activities (through the North Balwyn Senior Citizens’ Centre) - some of the current activities include billiards, card group and bingo
Centre Lunches - Instead of having meals delivered, members have the option of having a social centre meal a couple of times a week
Podiatrist
Hairdresser
Fortnightly shopping trip to Doncaster Shopping Town
